After months of work installing new suspension, big brakes, steering, cooling system and 3.55 rear axle the a/c compressor locked up on my 3rd drive. Here in the south a typical day is 95 deg. and 95% humidity so a/c is a must if you are to enjoy the ride, so new compressor w/clutch, accumulator, liquid line(with orifice tube) and condenser installed, high pressure manifold lines and evaporator flushed, I pulled the system down to 29.inHg and installed 34 oz. of R134. Viola! ice cold air coming from the vents. I’m happy, time for an ice cold adult beverage!

I need to try a recharge on my Mini as the AC doesn’t currently work. Hopefully that fixes it without having to buy new parts. It was working (barely) when I got the car and slowly just stopped working.

Sounds like a slow freon leak, try putting in some dye to find it, may just be an o-ring leaking at the fitting.

Sure looks clean under that hood; I spy with my little eye a 302! Nice!
I replaced most of the AC system on my ’95 a few years ago. Everything but the evap and condenser coils. So nice to have it all working again.

Looks like a visible coolant leak is fogging up the drivers side!! Or it’s slimer??

I’m just going to grab an AC Pro or something to get me through to the end of the summer. I’ll worry about solving it properly if the issue comes back next summer. It may just have leaked slowly over the last 12 years and need a quick pick up.

Bonus points for actually doing this right!
It irks me how many people know nothing about servicing A/C and would just slap in a new compressor then dump in however much refrigerant it takes foe their $4 low-side gauge to read “what the can says it should” and think it’s okay.

Thanks. One reason I posted this is so people would see what should be done after a compressor failure.
